I Could Care Less

The misuse of the phrase, “I could care less” is something that has frustrated me slightly for a very long time. Only slightly. When people inform others of events that don’t matter, often the one being informed will say “I could care less”, (wishing to imply that it does not matter to them in any way). HOWEVER, this is a misuse of the phrase. When said, a person is saying that they COULD care less, meaning that there is less caring that could be done. Follow? No? Good. What the phrase should be is “I could NOT care less”. This means that the person is doing the lowest amount of caring that is possible. When people make little mistakes like this, chaos could ensue. People who are unaware of common expressions, yet fluent speakers of English would be flustered. They would be confused at why the tone does not match the expression. Wars could ensue. So please, stop making this mistake. People will understand you insult more and they will be more offended, thus you reap the benefits.
